Restaurant Ranch Reviews

Arby's
This place used to have an OK ranch, but now they have really bad ranch. The old ranch came in a good size packet and was called something like Buttermilk Ranch Dressing. The new stuff comes in a small portion cup and is so thick that when I knocked one upside down with the lid off, the ranch didn't even budge from the bottom! It doesn't have much flavor, and the little bit that it has isn't all that good. I'm not sure why they serve it in portion cups because I don't see how it could be made fresh given the flavor, but maybe I'm wrong.

Izzy's Pizza
I'm sure you've seen me mention Izzy's Pizza many times before. They have a very tasty ranch with a good buttermilk flavor. The ranch goes pretty well with their pizza's, but it goes GREAT with their Potato Rounds. You can order them for takeout with a pizza, or try them on their buffet. I usually get a large order of Potato Rounds and 4 sides of ranch. Their sides are pretty large (4 oz., I think) and I've only been charged for them once. If I eat at the buffet, I use a soup cup for the ranch.

Mount Hood Meadows Ski Area, OR
There are several restaurants here, and I didn't experience those, but I found ranch in their cafeteria like area in a dispenser much like at Snowmass. On the back wall they have a line of pump dispensers including ketchup, mustard, something I don't remember and ranch. Sadly, the ranch was Best Foods. They make a great mayo, but their ranch is not so good.

Snowmass Village Ski Area, CO
It's been a couple years since I've been there, so I don't exactly remember the taste, but I think it was in the OK to Good range. However, they did do one thing that really impressed me. You know the ketchup pump that some fast food restaurants have on their condiment stand? Well, at one of the lodges on the mountain, they had ranch in one of these pumps and it was out on the condiment stand! This is exactly were ranch belongs. You don't have to ask someone for a bunch of small containers of it and you don't have to pay for it. Have as much as you want!! What a great idea (that I still haven't seen anyone else adopt yet).

Taco Time
Taco Time has some great ranch. It's got a bit of a dill flavor to it and it is a good texture (not too thick, not runny). Taco Time is a franchise chain and they have pretty good consistency from store to store. The only difference I see is that some of the stores charge for the ranch and some don't. I generally get their crisp bean burrito and their Cheddar Mexi-Fries (tater tots with melted cheddar cheese). Both of these items go great with their ranch.

Track Town Pizza
Another of my favorites. This place has great pizza's and great ranch that goes very well with their pizzas. I've not done a side by side comparison, but I think it tastes a lot like Izzy's ranch. Sadly, they charge for their ranch ($1.50), but I don't mind since it comes in a large 6 oz cup and it tastes great (it also comes in a 3 oz cup for $1.00, but that's not a very good deal). As for the pizza, I love the Gourmet Vegetarian (Sundried tomatoes, fresh garlic, roasted red peppers and marinated artichoke hearts) and the Mediterranean (Sundried tomatoes, oven roasted garlic and feta cheese). Sometimes I dip the pizza in the ranch, but usually I poor the ranch on top. They make their ranch fresh, so a couple of times it's been a little runny, but that is pretty rare.

Willamette Pas Ski Area, OR
Great little ski area with crappy ranch. :( It comes in the small rectangular container like at Carl's Junior (what is that, 1.5 oz.?) and has a name something like "Premium Ranch Dip and Dressing". As I've found with many foods, if they call it "Premium", it's usually crap. It was pretty thick, and I'm not exactly sure what was wrong with it, but it just didn't taste very good. I think it was all the preservatives; it just didn't have that cool ranch flavor. I think I had to pay for them too, but I don't remember for sure.
